I think I see your problem from your submitted error log.  You are not compiling your top level VI.  You are compiling "I2C Receive Interrupt.vi".  You need to compile your top VI which is Flow.vi.  Thats where the I2C and Serial objects are created.  Not sure why you are just compiling your interrupt?

I have no idea how I came to be compiling the wrong VI - Brain fade...

I appreciate your help which goes well beyond call of duty.
